Hey there, friends. As usual, I don't spend any time on here any more unless I'm looking for inspiration or reference images.
I haven't been particularly artsy lately, partially due to finishing off my graduate studies this semester, and partially due to this bullshit right here:

katietaskyart.tumblr.com/post/…

Needless to say, my drive to create in the place that I feel so comfortable in has kind of been stripped from me. But in the meantime, I'm doing some adult things like working and trying to save some money. Hoping to do some great adventuring this summer. Maybe start working on projects I can do on my own, like stained glass.

Anyway, if you want to keep up with what I'm up to, be sure to follow me on tumblr:

Thanks and happy spring!

Busy Bee

Hey friends!

I’ve dived back into my metals projects pretty much full steam after the 4 week hiatus I took doing nothing but playing Minecraft and Bioshock, and reading some great new comics and books. And making cookies.

But I’m back in the studio more often, trying to find time to squeeze into working on projects.

And with that, a million new ideas that are trying to distract me from my old ideas that are half finished.

I really need to work on a wooden box I’ve promised my boyo since summer. It’s going to be a custom Magic card box, and I’ve been really excited to make it but keep putting it aside to work on things for cons and other events.

BUT IT’S GOING TO GET DONE DAMN IT. Today and tomorrow I have no plans except to go to the store and maybe do laundry, both of which are optional.

I also got a new idea. An ambitious idea, but I think a plausible idea. Have you seen these jewelers saws before?! They’re gorgeous, and I’ve been wanting to make my own handle and steal an old saw body from the studio to call my own for years. I think this will be on my list of personal projects this semester.

Lord knows I love making stuff to make a little money, but also making useful things for myself is super rewarding, so it’s going on the list of possible projects. Along with wedding rings, containers, and a multitude of other things.

In the works now though:

I have three HUGE necklace pieces, which I posted a few weeks ago in the works.
I have also been making a few smaller pendants out of twigs and stones.
Going to see if I can make some mini ‘elemental’ arrows inspired by the old Thief games.

And of course, the handful of commissions I have open.

It’s been a busy week but I love it.

Holiday Cheer

Sometimes I forget how great of a networking and inspiring site Deviantart can be when it wants to. (But that new logo, though). So I try to come back around these parts and browse on occasion, get inspired, and try to give some feedback on things I really like.

It's the dead center of winter and I think I'm starting to feel it. I'm getting restless and anxious but that could also be because I've been sick for two weeks and counting. The super long and would-be awesome Thanksgiving break was mostly me feeling crumby and not productive at all. I have some jewelry in the works, and I really want to do some great hand made gifts for Christmas, but we'll see how all that turns out.

Everyone's probably getting cookies and cheap-but-awesomely-comfortable blankets.

On the other hand, I am making money, which is great, so I can actually CONSIDER giving gifts that I actually pay for. But On the third hand, I have 4 weeks off of work that I should really be making things during, or learning a new skill. (maybe crocheting? Who knows!)

Also, I am looking through my deviations and boy oh boy, some of that stuff is old. I've been here for 10 years now, and some of the things dredged up from the later pages of my gallery show this account's age. A lot of it has been moved to scraps, if you want to take the time machine way back, and I'm doing a little bit of clean up (though admittedly it's too much work for me to clean up the 'Featured' folder). Most of my stuff is now in proper categories for your viewing pleasure.

Anyway, this is the first year in a while that I'm actually feeling pretty cheery going into the holidays, so have some of it! Enjoy it!

Get Excite

So it's September 30th, so it's pretty much Halloween and that is pretty much the best thing ever anyway, but on top of that, a lot of great stuff has happened recently.
I managed to get myself and the other half passes for all four days of PAX Prime in Seattle back at the end of August and it was really, really, awesome. I loved everything about it and everyone was super nice. I got to meet some amazing people working on some amazing things, and it was all really inspiring and I don't know, it really brightened my otherwise sort of abysmal existence I had this summer.
When I got back, I immediately started up a new job with the after school program at a nearby school, which is allowing me to teach art to elementary school students without the stress of grades and standards, so I'm really excited to dive further into that.
When I got back I also spent every waking moment not at work in the studio making jewelry for :iconsenshi-con: and it was super amazing. We just got back yesterday, and even though some buttwipes thought it was okay to steal some of my pieces, I still had a great time and met some amazing people. You live, you learn. I also managed to make a bit of cash so it didn't break the bank to go, even with gas and other expenses.
I hope fall is going well for everyone else, because it seems like it's over here. It's 34 degrees and snowing today.

I am not on here as often as I used to be, so if you want to get in touch or see what I'm working on more regularly, I suggest checking out my art blog on Tumblr. I usually post process shots and final ones, and am willing to sell a lot of my work that is on there.

Thanks everyone who went to Senshi Con and PAX! It's been an awesome month and all of you are amazing.

Living the life

Good news!
I have a stable, yet pretty low income and a regular person schedule and no classes and it's starting to make me feel a little more like an adult.
I'm still struggling with the inner battle of "I am making way too little money" and "This is my first actual chance to hold onto a full time job so I should just calm my tits."
In all of that flip floppy personal conversation, I have bitten the bullet and bought the Adobe Creative Cloud subscription for a year (it is 240 dollars for students right now, not bad) and now I have access to all this great stuff that hopefully I will begin to teach myself. I also downloaded Blender the other day and derped around with it.
The possibilities are endless!

In the meantime, I have also been flip flopping, debating, and questioning my ability to make money as an artist. I have so many things that I like to do and make, but I never know whether anyone else will like them as much.

So this year for Senshi Con (the one and only, tiny anime/game/pop culture convention in Alaska) I will buy myself a table in the artist alley and sell some stuff.

But fret not, if you are not able to come all the way to the frozen north, I have already put my three recent poster designs on Etsy for sale, so please check them out! I would love feedback, questions, or comments on my work and the pricing so I have a better idea of what folks are interested in.

I could plaster the walls of my house with these, but that won't make me any money, so I'd love to get some input.

On a side note, more than half of this summer has been constant rain, so adventures out of town have been difficult. But we did manage to have a good day yesterday and went swimming and paddling around in a lake. I hope everyone is having a great summer as well!
